Candidates claiming the EBC concession must possess a valid prescribed document, such as the applicable EBC income certificate, BPL card or Izzat MST, as specified in the CEN.
Mode of Fee Payment
Payment must be made online using the available internet banking, debit card, credit card or UPI options. Applicable service charges are payable by the candidate.
The notification also requires candidates to validate their Aadhaar-linked bank account details for the refund process. Candidates should follow the instructions displayed on the official application portal.

The notification specifies the pay level and initial pay. Candidates should not assume a fixed take-home salary without accounting for the applicable allowances and deductions.
Career opportunities
These are graduate-level positions within Indian Railways. The posts involve different responsibilities, including commercial supervision, train management, accounts work and clerical administration. Actual duties and working conditions vary by post and assigned unit.
Candidates should consider both the pay level and the medical standard before selecting their post preferences.
RRB NTPC Graduate Recruitment Selection Process
The recruitment process includes computer-based examinations and the applicable post-specific tests, followed by document verification and medical examination.
The principal stages are:
- First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT 1).
- Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT 2).
- Computer-Based Typing Skill Test for the applicable typist posts.
- Document Verification (DV).
- Medical Examination (ME).
- Final empanelment and appointment, subject to the prescribed conditions.
Candidates should check the detailed recruitment-process provisions in the notification for the exact requirements applying to their preferred post.
CBT 1 – First Stage Computer Based Test
CBT 1 is the initial screening examination. Shortlisting for CBT 2 is based on the normalized marks obtained in this examination.
The notification specifies negative marking of one-third of a mark for each incorrect answer in CBT examinations.
Candidates should prepare for Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness according to the detailed syllabus and examination scheme in the CEN.
CBT 2 – Second Stage Computer Based Test
Candidates are shortlisted for CBT 2 based on their normalized CBT 1 marks. The notification states that candidates will generally be shortlisted at a rate of 15 times the community-wise vacancies notified against the relevant RRB, subject to the Railway Administration’s provisions.
The examination pattern specified for CBT 2 is:
| Subject | Number of questions |
| General Awareness | 50 |
| Mathematics | 35 |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 35 |
| Total | 120 |
| Examination detail | Information |
| Total questions | 120 |
| Total marks | 120, with each question carrying 1 mark |
| Duration | 90 minutes |
| Duration for eligible PwBD/PwD candidates using a scribe | 120 minutes |
| Negative marking | One-third mark for each wrong answer |
The section-wise question distribution is indicative, and the notification states that actual papers may vary.
Typing Skill Test
The typing skill test applies to the posts for which typing proficiency is prescribed, including Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist and Senior Clerk Cum Typist.
Candidates choosing these posts should review the applicable typing-test instructions in the official notification and practise accurate typing on a computer.
Document Verification and Medical Examination
Candidates shortlisted on merit must produce their original documents for verification. The recruitment process also requires candidates to satisfy the prescribed medical standards for the posts they have opted for.
Final empanelment depends on merit, document verification, medical fitness, applicable reservation rules and vacancy availability. Selection does not automatically guarantee appointment until the required conditions are fulfilled.
Medical Standards
Medical fitness is an important eligibility condition in railway recruitment. The notification specifies different medical standards for the posts.
| Post | Medical standard |
| Chief Commercial Cum Ticket Supervisor | B-2 |
| Goods Train Manager | A-2 |
| Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist | C-2 |
| Senior Clerk Cum Typist | C-2 |
The medical standards include prescribed visual-acuity requirements. The A-2 standard is particularly important for candidates applying for Goods Train Manager.
The notification states that candidates who have undergone LASIK or another refractive-error correction procedure are not eligible for posts carrying the A-2 standard. Specific conditions apply to certain other medical standards; candidates should read the relevant provisions before selecting posts.
Candidates who fail to meet the required medical standard for an opted post will not automatically receive an alternative appointment.
Job Location
Successful candidates may be allotted to the relevant railway zone or production unit according to merit, preferences, medical fitness and vacancy availability.
Applicants selecting RRB Bengaluru should study the vacancies under South Western Railway and the Rail Wheel Factory in Annexure B. Applying through RRB Bengaluru does not guarantee a posting in a particular city or district.
The notification also contains posting and transfer conditions. Candidates should select their RRB and post preferences carefully because the chosen RRB cannot be changed after the application is submitted.
